New stained glass for 8s!

Recently, firefighters at Duluth's station 8 in Spirit Valley were presented with an amazing piece of art! Denfeld High School students Michael Smith and Wesley Cook made the DFD-themed stained glass piece in their "Stained Glass Metals and Fibers" art class. The piece turned out great! We're excited to get it hung up inside of station 8.

Water park fun!

Last week, several members of Local 101 volunteered at a local indoor water park to help carry kids and adults who cannot walk up the four-story waterslide stairs. The event was part of the Courage Center's Mono-Ski Madness, a local downhill skiing event that hosts a pizza party for participants at the waterpark every year.

Toy Drive Success!

The toy drive was a success! We raised $3330 from our active and retired firefighters! This is the 5th year we have worked with Shopko for the purchase of the toys.  They are wonderful! In fact, Shopko employees donated money to add to ours! Shopko then gave us 10% more in gift cards to use. They even hired a cashier just for us to help with the shopping spree.

Missoula Area Stage II Fire Restrictions are in effect as of 12:01AM on Friday August 28th. The portions of the Missoula and Ninemile Ranger District within Mineral County as well as the entire Superior RD and Plains-Thompson Falls ranger districts of the Lolo National Forest are under Stage II Fire Restrictions due to continued dry conditions and potential for rapid and dangerous fire growth.

Chief Bill Fitzmaurice, who joined the department in February 1987 as a Firefighter-Paramedic, and who officially retires as of August 10th.

Fire Damages Apartments in Charleston, W.Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- One person was taken to the hospital after an apartment fire, Sunday evening. It happened at the Terrace Park East apartment building along Kanawha Boulevard, about 4:00 p.m. Fire crews tell WSAZ that the person taken to the hospital was suffering a panic attack. No physical injuries were reported.
